At some point, you see these people every day, the strangers. Some of them you’ll met a few times over several months or even years. We don’t usually pay much attention to strangers. We see them as just people designed around us. They are people you may not speak with very often. As one of our Photography Exercises, we were asked to talk to people we do not know. This is more like of the Humans of New York style of photo blogging.
As much as I wanted to go outside and explore the city, I remained my focus in my own college Colegio de San Juan de Letran – Calamba. I haven’t talked to any strangers at Letran, so far.
“What should I do?”
I saw him in the library along with his friends and as they would begin to study, I captured this. He is a student leader who serves studentry as a vice president of Letran Mechanical Engineering Society. Showing God’s blessing for him through his passion for dancing as a member of Letran Street Dance Crew and part of Youth for Family and Life. Other than dancing he plays ukulele and solve mathematical/engineering related problems as his hobby.
“Ma’am, is this just quick I have this garbage bin with me? Why me? Include him too! (Referring to his other workmate)”
After I went down from the library, I saw Arnold. He is one of the housekeepers in Letran. He is from Leyte and decided to work in Laguna because of this work opportunity. It doesn’t matter is he’ll live far from his family as long as he can help them financially.
“Of all the guards out here, why did you choose me? What course are you taking up?”
I saw Elbert smiling at the children and asked him for a small talk. He asked me what’s this for and told him it’s for my Photography class. He’s from Bicol but currently living in Calamba because he was assigned here to work. Same with Arnold, he’s working hard for himself and his future family.
“Ay Picture? Wait, let me fix myself and look in the mirror!”
She was wearing a school uniform and saw her chatting with other women near the cafeteria and asked her who is she waiting for. Shirly is waiting for her only daughter Sophia. For 12 years she worked in a company but then she resigned when her daughter started to attending school. She told me, she went back to college because she wants to work abroad so she could work and support her family.
“Don’t take too much photos.”
Larry is waiting for the kids. He is a tricycle service driver for almost 3 years now. He seems so aloof when I asked him for an interview but then told me he is working hard for himself and for his family and for his future family as well.
“Hey I have a class, make this quick! 🙂 “
I saw him walking towards the rooms and told him can I have this short interview. Kevin felt so shy and said to me we can do it some other time. Who would have thought this tall handsome guy would be nice to me and agreed! He is a Mechanical Engineering Student and a huge fan of basketball NBA / PBA and yet he’s never been in an actual game. He can’t live a day without his iPad. All of his hobbies such as reading electronic books, checking mail and social networking accounts, and playing games. As a student, he revealed to me that he usually take some pictures from the board after his professor wrote all the notes and then, he transfers all the notes in the evening to clearly understand each lecture. This is just a smart way of making use of what he has!
“Hi, what can I do for you? 🙂 “
Isn’t he such nice and cute? This tall guy did not make it hard for me for this short talk. There are some girls talking to him then I came to interrupt! Ero is an 18 year old Information Technology student and a football varsity in Letran Calamba. He likes to go to far places with his fixie bike, play football, and computer games too.
“Why me? Can you just interview him? I am not prepared. 🙂 “
Miss Grence is one of the Records Evaluator at the Registrar’s Office. She’s not actually a total stranger for me because it’s her who assists me whenever I have concerns about my courses, grades and documents. But that’s all I know about her so I took this chance to get to know her more. Miss Grence told me that she’s a Christian and still single and keeps herself busy by attending Church activities. She loves her work in Letran and enjoys it. She is a graduate of Entrepreneurship at Philippine Polytechnic University Sto. Tomas Batangas.
“No. I don’t like you take photos of me… Well, if you can catch us, maybe!”
Caitlin is this cutie girl with pony tails along with her best friend, whom did not introduce herself because she was so shy. They are in their 1st Grade and kept on running around the pathway. I asked them what’s their favorite food, and they told me they love chips and chocolates. These two are so much fun to talk to although they made me run after them. 🙂
“That’s the question, what’s interesting about me?”
All I know about him is that he is Andrew and he takes great photos and an Information Technology Student. Then here goes this interview to get to know more about him. I found out that people who got to know him have liked his humor and artistic abilities. Some even described him as sweet and and adorable in which he had a hard time believing. What;s more interesting about Andrew is that, he finds a way to make it through his lowest points in life and somehow he is still able to keep going.
I took these shots alone so unfortunately I have no Behind the Scenes shots. After doing this activity, I found out that it’s actually fun meeting new people or talk with those people you have been with but haven’t got the chance to talk to them. Although for some time, I tend to be shy to approach them and it was kinda awkward to talk about things about them, I still feel great about it! Maybe I’ll do this more often! 🙂
